Pantomime 2014 update
Get ready to support the panto Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood this weekend and the next. There are a few tickets still available, on-line from www.cadsroyston.org.uk or by calling the box office on 07925 674967. Performances will be on January 24, 25, 31 and February 1 with evening performances at 7.30pm on every date and matinees at 2pm on the Saturdays.
Awards
We’ve had a number of nominations for the two CADS awards and the nominations are now closed. Find out the winners after the last performance of the panto on 1 Feb. The awards are:
The Lizzie Houghton Award for outstanding contribution to youth performing arts
and
The Fred Sillence Award for outstanding contribution to adult performing arts.
Anyone with any link to the performing arts is eligible, whether they be on stage, behind the scenes or simply supporting drama in some other way such as offering training, making costumes etc.
Royston Museum Project
There is nothing new to report on the museum project. The plan is still to have a costumed read through of the material at the museum under the guidance of Kathy Young. The evening is likely to be on 28 February 2014 and is expected to last about an hour.
If anyone would like to see any of the scripts, please contact Phil Rowe 01763 231749 or e-mail [email protected].
Costume Container
The committee have decided that for practical purposes, access to the containers will be through arrangement with Phil Rowe who has the keys ([email protected] or 01763 231749). Anyone wishing to borrow costume, either from within or outside the group for a non CADS production will need to liaise with Emma Shaw or Pauline Rowe both for borrowing and returning costume.
Turn To Face The Change
Following our success at last year’s festivals in Cambridge and Welwyn, and frustrated that we only got to perform it twice, the TTFTC cast and crew team are keen to give other festivals a go with it and also to put it on for a Royston audience. The plan is to submit it for the Sawston Festival (20 – 22 March) and the Haverhill one (19 - 23 May) and to put it on in Royston either at the end of April or beginning of May. One member of the original cast has moved out of the area so we need someone to fill that role. We need a gutsy young woman to play Kate who happens to be a lesbian. It’s only a small part but if you think you might like to give it a try contact Pauline Rowe on [email protected] or 01763231749 to arrange an audition.
When we perform this for a Royston audience, we will need something else to go with it, if you have any suggestions you would like to be considered, again, please contact Pauline Rowe.
AGM
The CADS Annual General Meeting will be on 8 April 7:30 at Meridian (exact venue tbc nearer the time). Please do come if you are able. One order of business will be the election of a new committee. Talking of which, Emma Daintrey has stepped down from the committee after many years of invaluable service. The committee would like to thank her for all her hard work and expertise. This does leave room on the committee for anyone wishing to join. Please contact anyone on the committee if you are interested in joining (all committee member details at the end of the newsletter).
Mayor’s Quiz
THE mayor of Royston, Cllr Paul Grimes, is holding a quiz night at Royston Town Hall on Friday February 7 and will raise funds for the mayor's charity, the Garden House Hospice in Letchworth Garden City.
Tickets are £5 per person, with a maximum of eight people per team permitted.
A bar will be open throughout the evening, and raffle tickets will be on sale.
To book a table contact Royston Town Council on (01763) 245484.
If you would like to join in as part of a CADS group, please contact a member of the committee (details at the end of this letter).
In memoriam
Finally, it was with deep sadness that we heard of the passing of Elaine Paton. She was a wonderful and warm person who produced some truly beautiful scenery for us in the past. CADS would like to pass on our condolences to her family at this sad time.
The surplus from panto programme donations will be forwarded to the Garden House Hospice in Letchworth in her memory.
