(June 19, 2024)Warren McWilliams talk - brilliant and took an interesting turn
We hosted the playwright who wrote the last two pantomimes we have performed for an entertaining evening at the Old Schoolhouse last month. Not only did we get plenty of insight into how he has developed the many scripts he has written so far we also stepped in to the world of artificial intelligence with a script written on-the-spot by ChatGPT. Our impromptu readthrough was very funny - maybe a future comedy performance for the group???
Hansard - Very Timely!
It couldn't be timed better what with an election in the same week - CADS member Geraldine Hindley is performing alongside Michael Flintoff at ADC Corpus Playrooms in Hansard - a witty and savage portrait of the governing class and the society towards the end of the last century. Evening performances at 7pm from 2nd to 6th July - could be welcome light relief from other wall-to-wall news coverage! Tickets available here https://www.adctheatre.com/whats-on/play/hansard/
Happy Birthday Julian
A reminder: Please come along and celebrate CADS' very own Julian Nesteriuc’s 30th birthday on 13th July from 7pm at the Royal British Legion, Mill Road, Royston. RSVP by emailing [email protected]
CADS Summer Party
Matt and Cate Hall have generously offered to host a Summer social at their home (1 Kipling Road, SG8 7DT) on Saturday 27th July. Please do bring contributions of food and drink and your own party piece to perform at the event - maybe a monologue, a song, a sketch or whatever. We hope to see as many of you there as possible.
Kubb Picnic - Sunday 3rd August
And another social event for the diary - Emma and Joe Daintrey are organising a picnic in the Priory Gardens from midday on 3rd Aug - bring-your-own picnic and rug :-) - and will introduce us all to the game of Kubb! Never heard of it.... well then come along and find out!
6 Dead Queens and an Inflatable Henry
Some of you may remember this from lockdown and we hope some of the original cast will be able to reprise their roles. We're thinking about putting this production on again - this time IRL - around October-ish. Audition details will be announced soon.
Radio Plays
All three of our radio plays this year - Losing the Plot (Nick Warburton), Hitch-Hiker (Lucille Fletcher) and Sorry, Wrong Number (Lucille Fletcher) have now finished post-production and awaiting broadcast dates from Royston Radio - watch this space!
Mascot Premiere
The UK premiere of Mascot, a story about a sports team and their mascot, will be held on Fri 16th August in the Old Schoolhouse - wine and beer provided this time :-)
KJAR Containers
Lastly, on a more sobering note, many of you will know that the Trust that manages KJAR has asked CADS to remove our shipping containers from the school site as soon as possible. The Committee are working hard to resolve the situation and have spent time talking with the Headteacher, local MP and interested town, district and county councillors. These talks are ongoing. If the situation cannot be amicably resolved CADS will have to dispose of our costumes, scenery and equipment. It may mean that we don't have the resources to stage our annual pantomime in 2025. Smaller stage productions may be possible using alternative venues, and the Committee is progressing this idea.If you have questions about this situation please look at FAQs on the website.
